ENS Gameday Preview: Blue Jackets @ Oilers
I had been thinking all day that the Oilers didn’t play until tomorrow night because Oilers. Nothing says the playoffs more than a Blue Jackets vs Oilers game in late March. I’m sure Rexall Place will be electric tonight. Its a shame we had to wait until last week to see this historic rivalry, but fortunately the NHL schedule makers were kind enough to give it to us for the second time in five days. Columbus really isn’t as bad as where they are in the standings. I’m pretty sure 90% of their roster has been injured at some point this year. They are finally starting to get healthy though with Ryan Murray returning to the lineup last week, and Boone Jenner is nearing a return as well which could not come sooner for my fantasy team. If they can stay healthy next year, the BJ’s should definitely have a shot at returning to the big dance, and they’ll get to add a blue chip piece with a lottery pick in this year’s stacked draft.
Pouliot – RNH – Eberle
Yakupov – Roy – Purcell
Hamilton – Lander – Miller
Hendricks – Gordon – Klinkhammer
Klefbom – Schultz
Marincin – Fayne
Ference – Nikitin
It’s Miller time tonight at Rexall. Andrew Miller got recalled on an emergency basis and will make his NHL debut tonight. He’s a skilled player and should have some chemistry with my boy Tony Lander from their time in OKC. Taylor Hall is getting close and Luke Gazdic is out with an illness. Also, Niki Nikitin is back tonight sooo your move, Buffalo.
What Needs To Happen
The Oilers power play has been scorching hot since the All-Star break but everyone knows that. It has actually been winning them some games which is something we haven’t been able to say since Ralph Kruger was behind the bench. Edmonton’s PP roasted the Blue Jackets last week when they met in ‘Lumbus where they went 3-for-5 with the man advantage before also lighting up the Leafs on Monday. They’ll need to keep this going tonight because they’re not exactly a force at even strength with the lineup they’re rolling.
What Can’t Happen
At this point I don’t even like this section. If they win, great. I love winning. If they lose, also great. The better chance they have at winning the lottery this year, the better chance I have at seeing another Oilers playoff game in my lifetime.
What Is Going To Happen
The power play continues to roll with two more goals tonight. Both from Yakupov naturally. The Oilers win 5-2. The other three goals will also be from Yakupov.
