ENS Gameday Preview: Jets @ Oilers
The Oilers are back at it tonight to take on the Jets at Rexall Place tonight. The countdown starts tonight though. Only ten more games left this year. It’s been a long season for everyone….again, but it’s hard to believe that another draft lottery is just around the corner. And then the draft lottery will of course be followed by months of Oilers fans planning potential moves that would make the team maybe even the slightest bit better. And then before we know it the summer will have passed us by, and it will be September and we’ll be discussing how on earth Craig MacTavish decided to enter training camp with two NHL centermen, two backup goalies, and if we’re lucky, one top four defenseman. That’s just Oil fan life. Such a viscous cycle.
Pouliot – RNH – Eberle
Yakupov – Roy – Purcell
Hall – Lander – Miller
Hendricks – Gordon – Klinkhammer
Klefbom – Schultz
Marincin – Fayne
Ference – Nikitin
No lineup changes tonight after Saturday’s rollercoaster win. Ben Scrivens continues to get the nod even though he lets in approximately 1000 goals every game but there’s no other option. What a team.
What Needs To Happen
The Jets are a good hockey club. They’re big and fast and that’s two things that the Oilers are definitely not. Winnipeg is in the heat of the playoff race in the west right now so it would be outstanding if Edmonton could play some of form spoiler tonight. In order for that to happen, they’ll need to bring their A game and hope that their PP continues to roll. The Jets are a much better team at even strength, but they take a lot of penalties so Edmonton will have to count on their PP to contribute one or two goals to win the game.
What Can’t Happen
What Is Going To Happen
In four career games against the Jets, Nail Yakupov has three goals and an assist. So naturally Yak will score 4 tonight and the Oilers win 5-3. Hallsy with the other goal for the boys in blue.
