ENS Gameday Preview: Kings @ Oilers

The Oilers are back in action tonight after what was a pretty uneventful deadline with MacT only making one move. Unfortunately that move was a bad one because he traded away our best defenseman. I do not understand this team. The Oilers entered the year needing three pretty key roster pieces:

  • A number one goalie
  • A top pairing defenseman
  • A second line centreman

Going into the summer, you can now add a top six winger (Perron) and a second pairing defenseman (Petry) to that list of holes they need to fill. The Oilers wrote the book on terrible asset management. It is way past embarrassing at this point. Do your job, MacT.

Pouliot – RNH – Eberle

Yakupov – Roy – Purcell

Fraser – Hendricks – Hamilton

Gazdic – Gordon – Klinkhammer

Klefbom – Schultz

Maricnin – Fayne

Ference – Oesterle

By my count that’s 5 AHL players. That is not an NHL caliber lineup. No sir.

What Needs To Happen

The Kings are rolling lately. They’re in a playoff push, and they just added Andrej Sekera while the Oilers just dealt Petry. This game has disaster written ALL over it. Edmonton will need to avoid the very common “get hemmed in your own zone for minutes at a time” defensive strategy that we’ve seen too many times this year if they have any hope in winning this game.

What Can’t Happen

What Is Going To Happen

You all know the drill. Oilers pull off an upset in OT, win 4-3. Yakupov with 4.
