Days Until The First Oilers Game: 33 – Steve MacIntyre
Today’s Player: Steve MacIntyre. Here’s Big Mac trying to fight the entire Springfield Falcons team while playing in Wilkes-Barre:
“HE’S GONE BANANAS!”
Career Oilers Stats:
Why We Liked Him:
Ya boy Hank and I were in attendance for this one. That night got very blurry, but I’ll always remember two things: Jumbo Jim Vandermeer’s pass, and Steve MacIntyre ending the career of Raitis Ivanans. He died. Like I remember them stretchering him off the ice thinking “yep, I definitely seen a human die right there.”
Ivanans played one career NHL game after that cold pack to the face. Pretty gutless move by Calgary to let a dead man play.
Why We Didn’t Like Him:
He skated like a vending machine.
Where Is He Now?
Last year he signed with the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL, but spent most of the season playing with the Utah Grizzlies in the East Coast League. Since Norfolk doesn’t exist in the AHL anymore, I have absolutely no idea who owns Big Mac’s rights anymore. One can assume he doesn’t have a contract. I think maybe he’s roping full time now?

Good Saskatchewan kid. He’s also staring in Ice Guardians, a movie documentary about hockey enforcers that’s set to come out in spring 2016.
