ENS Gameday Preview: Oilers @ Canucks
This gameday blog coming to you a little late today thanks largely in part to a late night celebration of the BOA. Great game. GREAT game. If the thought of McDavid-Nuge as your 1-2 centremen for the next ten years doesn’t make you do sports boners than I don’t know what will. They were both flying last night. Oh and Taylor Hall? Probably the best player on the ice . And our other first overall pick chipped in with two points as well. Ho Hum. It’s almost like someone said that was going to happen..
Nailed it like McJesus probably nailed Sean Monahan’s wife after the game last night too. Bringing my all-time prediction record to approximately 2-90. Got a little work to do.
The Oil are looking to stay hot tonight as they roll into Vancouver to take on the Canucks. Vancouver has gotten off to a pretty hot start this year at 3-1-1. Ryan Miller has been lights out to start the year and has never lost to the Oilers in his career. But that was pre-McDavid so does it even count?
Hall – RNH – Slepyshev
Pouliot – McDavid – Yakupov
Korpikoski – Lander – Purcell
Gazdic – Letestu – Klinkhammer
Sekera – Fayne
Klefb0m – Schultz
Reinhart – Gryba
ENS favourite Matty “Ice” Hendricks is out tonight with some sort of lower body injury so Anton Slepyshev is back in to play on the top line. Fresh legs will be good in the second half of back-to-backs.
Anders Nilsson gets his second start of the year after a pretty strong effort on Tuesday in Dallas.
What Needs to Happen
Well the Oilers will need to keep things simple having played last night. They need to use their speed to get on the forecheck and get lots traffic to the blue paint to get in Miller’s kitchen early. A little of this wouldn’t hurt either:
What Can’t Happen
What is Going to Happen
We can’t lose to Ryan Miller again. We’re due. It’s as simple as that. The Oilers’ top two lines keep rolling in Vancouver tonight en route to a 4-2 win. McDavid and Yakupov both light the lamp again.
PS – Jake Virtanen has the worst haircut in the league.
