Flames Fans Are Cocky As Shit, Poll Shows
Source – A new poll confirms what you may have already guessed: Edmonton hockey fans are pretty excited about the coming NHL season.
Twenty-seven per cent of Oilers fans say they are more excited for the coming season than they were last year — compared to only 16 per cent of Calgary Flames fans.
In Calgary, it’s the opposite story. While 76 per cent of Flames fans expect their team to make playoffs, enthusiasm for the coming season was considerably lower.
More than half (53 per cent) of Albertans think the Flames will make the playoffs, while less than one-quarter (24 per cent) think the Oilers have a chance.
Remember 12 months ago when the Flames were coming off a 77 point, 27th place campaign? Flames fans don’t. Over three-quarters of Flames fans think they’ll make the playoffs again this year. These expectations come despite being a noticeably bad hockey team for the past half decade, until last year.
When did Flames fans become entitled to the same expectations as Yankees fans? Only 16 per cent of Flames fans are excited about this year? One playoff birth in six years gives you the privilege of expecting that all the time? Jiri Hudler (31) increased his highest single season points total by 133% last year, but I’m sure he’ll reach the 70 point plateau again. Your confidence in your squad has eclipsed the unbearableness of Canucks fans, and at least they made the Finals one year in the last decade. It gotten so bad you’re starting to say some really stupid things:
That’s a great point, HudlerHugs. Sam Bennett looked ELITE getting five points in those 11 career games he played. I’d rather take them over Crosby too. Hot fire take.
Expecting the playoffs is one thing. Saying you wouldn’t trade Sam Bennett and Sean Monahan for Connor McDavid is next level psycho. You guys have absolutely lost your minds.
Now I’m one to talk, I’m an Oilers fan. Every goddamn year I pick the Oilers to finish ahead of the Flames and every goddamn year their painfully average roster manages to win more games than us. I hate it. It’s a curse. The 16-year-old Flames fans on hfboards will be quick to point out things I said this time last year. So this year, I’m going to do something different:
The Flames will make the playoffs. Nice roster guys. Looks electric. Big things.
