ENS Gameday Preview: Flyers @ Oilers
It’s been three nights since the Oilers laid that awful, rotten, piece of garbage game on Saturday against the Flames but it’s safe that one is going to sting for a while. The Flames were tired, playing 5 games in 7 nights and on the second half of a back-to-back yet they still took it to the Oil. Inexcusable. With that being said, they can totally redeem themselves tonight with a good ol’ fashioned ass kicking of Philly.
The Flyers are exactly the kind of Eastern conference team that Edmonton can take to pound town. They come into tonight’s game with a 4-5-2 record through 11 games, which technically is better than Edmonton, but as Snash touched on today, the Oilers had a killer schedule in October, while Philly has the good fortune of playing in the East. The Flyers play an offensive game like the Oil, and their defense is brutal, again much like the Oilers. They also played last night in Vancouver so Edmonton should have an upper hand, although that wasn’t the case on Saturday. But you better believe Friggin’ Todd will have the guys ready to go from puck drop so that can change tonight.
Hall – RNH – Draisaitl
Pouliot – McDavid – Yakupov
Hendricks – Letestu – Purcell
Gazdic – Lander – Purcell
Sekera – Nurse
Klefbom – Davidson
Reinhart – Gryba
Your boy Matty Ice is back in tonight and I couldn’t be happier about it. Glue guy like you read about. Griffin Reinhart is back in to play alongside Gryba. Tough break for Griffin.
Anders Nilsson gets the nod in the pipes tonight after Talbot’s disappointing effort on the weekend.
What Needs to Happen
The Oilers need to come out ready to play tonight. Two games straight they’ve been shelled for 3 in the first period which is a terrible sign to say the least. They need to set the tone early tonight and get in on the Flyers’ defense with their speed. The Flyers employ a few d-men who skate like trucks and the Oilers need to expose that.
What Can’t Happen
What is Going to Happen
The Oil bring it right from the opening draw tonight. Just a gut feeling. They get on the Flyers early and go into cruise control for the rest of the night. Edmonton wins 5-3. Jakub Voracek hasn’t scored yet this season so you know he is due. But it doesn’t matter because McDavid starts another point streak with a goal and two helpers of his own. Yak with 2.
