Edmonton is back at it tonight as the Winterpeg Jets roll into the Concrete Jungle. This will be the Oilers’ last game before Christmas. They resume on Boxing Day, hitting the road for a set of back-to-backs in Vancouver and Calgary on the 26th and 27th. This is an important game for the Oil. A win tonight and they will be in within a point of a playoff spot heading into the break. After a disappointing ending to the road trip which included three straight losses, and back to back thumpings at the hands of the Hawks and the Avalanche, Edmonton will need to bounce back with a strong effort against the Jets.

Winnipeg enters the game with a 15-15-2 record while battling for their playoff lives in the Central Division. Rookie goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will get the start in the pipes for the Jets and he is on a heater. In his first 7 NHL games, he boasts a 5-2 record with a shiny .925 save percentage to match.

Lineup

No Brandon Davidson on defence after getting injured against Colorado. Bad news for Oilers fans because this means Justin Schultz stays in the lineup…

Cam Talbot gets the nod in the pipes. Anders Nilsson has crashed back to earth and looked super Oilersy in his last five starts so it’s time for Talbot to make a statement.

What Needs to Happen

Edmonton needs to better tonight. RNH needs to get it going. Look, I love me some Nuge but he has looked way off over the last month. He needs to turn it around in a hurry in order for the Oil to make a climb back up the standings.

Also, if the defence can stop sucking a bag of balls tonight that would be great.

What Can’t Happen

What is Going to Happen

Edmonton responds and sends their fans home happy with 2 points. Taylor Hall stays in beast mode and wills the boys to a 5-2 win while chipping in with his first hat trick of the season.

Book it.
