ENS Gameday Preview: Sharks @ Oilers

Our beloved Oilers are back it tonight as the San Jose Sharks roll into the city of concrete. I think it’s finally time to say the Oil are hot. Three straight wins to open up their current home-stand and enter tonight’s game just four points back of a playoff spot. Meaningful games in December is a strange feeling but dammit do I ever love it. First time in years. San Jose is one of the teams ahead of Edmonton so I guess you could say tonight is a four point game. Weird.

It is also Todd the God’s first game coaching against his former squad so let’s hope the Oil have a little extra pep in their step.

The Sharks enter tonight with a 14-13-= record. They lost last night in Calgary which makes it four straight in the loss column. If the Oilers are looking to stay in the hunt, these are the games they have to win.

No changes up front tonight as McLellan is going with the same lines that earned him a W on Sunday against the lowly Sabres. That Hall-Drai-Purcell line looked good again, and if Ebs and Nuge really get it going the Oil should be fine.

As Snash wrote today, Mark Fayne is on his way down to the minors so he clearly won’t be in tonight. Anders Nilsson is back in the pipes.

What Needs to Happen

The Sharks lost in Calgary last night so they are playing on back-to-back nights. Edmonton needs to take advantage of it and come out ready to play. The Sharks are a veteran team so the Oilers will need to play with pace early and make things difficult for San Jose. If they jump out to a lead in the first period, hopefully they can batten down the hatches and hold on for the rest of the night.

What Can’t Happen

What is Going to Happen

The Oil keep the heater rolling! They rattle off their fourth straight W thanks in part to Taylor Hall yet again. The guy is playing the best hockey of his career and it’s awesome to watch. He adds to his totals with a goal and two assists.

Edmonton wins 5-2.
