ENS Gameday Preview: Coyotes @ Oilers

This blog is coming in hot from a guy who is just beaten down. Everything is just a kick in the bag. From the Oilers getting shut out AGAIN the other night, to today where I had to watch Jake Virtanen go full meltdown mode and ruin my morning. Usually I can depend on Canada to take away my Oilers induced pain… but better luck next year I guess.

In a rare matinee at home today, the mighty Oil will be looking to avoid their fifth straight loss in a PAC-7 match against the Coyotes. Remember like three weeks ago when we won 6 straight and were in a playoff spot? Well now we’re back in last place. Good times.

Arizona comes into the game sitting in 2nd(!!!) place in the division. It has to be only a matter of time until they fall off the map. The Yotes won every game against between these two teams last season and that just simply cannot happen if you’re the Oilers. If they have any hope on making  playoff push, they need to win games against the other bad teams in their division.

Looks like Luke Gazdic is out and Bobby Klink is in after returning from injury. Hopefully it is Justin Schultz coming out of the lineup on defence.

Cam Talbot back in the pipes.

What Needs to Happen

Edmonton needs to win this one. Yeah, Arizona is having a pretty good year, but they still aren’t good.

Arizona plays a tight defensive game that sucks the life out of the Oil every time they play so the Oilers will need to make sure they are responsible with the puck. The Coyotes thrive on turnovers. Once they have possession in the offensive zone they utilize their defencemen very well in their attack. Edmonton needs to limit the time they spend chasing the puck in their own zone otherwise this will be a looong afternoon.

What Can’t Happen

What is Going to Happen

Time to get back in the win column.

Edmonton rings in 2016 with a romping over the Coyotes. They come out flying with the early start and don’t look back. Taylor Hall adds 2 goals and 2 helpers as the Oil roll to a 6-1 win.
