ENS Gameday Preview: Hurricanes @ Oilers

The Oil are back it tonight as the Carolina Hurricanes roll into the concrete jungle. If I’m being honest, I’m not looking forward to this one. The Hurricanes are probably the most boring team in hockey. They have very limited offensive weapons but they also allow the least amount of shots per game in the entire league. This is the type of matchup that probably doesn’t bode well for the Oilers, hence the 4-1 loss when they faced Carolina earlier in the year. It was one of the worst games Edmonton has played all season so hopefully they are ready to make a statement tonight. If the Oilers have any hope of turning things around, this is the type of game they need to win.

Lineup

Cam Talbot in the pipes.

What Needs to Happen

The Hurricanes are a team that will not give up many grade A chances. In order for the Oilers to have success in this one they will need to grind one out. They will need to get pucks in behind Carolina’s defence and use their speed to force turnovers and cause havoc on the forecheck in order to create their own chances tonight.

Carolina is also a very good transition team through the neutral zone so Edmonton has to make quick and smart passes to avoid turnovers otherwise this will be a long night.

What Can’t Happen

What is Going to Happen

The Oilers come out with a good effort tonight. The Pou-RNH-Eberle line keeps rolling and combines for 4 goals and Edmonton cruises to a 5-2 win over the Canes.

Gametime @ 7:00 MT on Sportsnet.
