Afternoon After Blog: Thanks, Jonas
Well that was… something. We should have known going into the night that since Jonas was in the pipes, we were in for an adventure. Oh boy was that ever true.
The first period started just like you thought it would have:
Jonas Gustavsson sliding to stack the pads when the puck is already in the net. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s not how you goaltend.
The Sens made it 2-0 with just over 5 minutes left in the period.
2-0 after 20.
With Edmonton down by two, obviously it was the Big Rig’s turn to take the game over:
OH MY! And just over a minute later, he does it again!
I smell a Rocket Richard trophy coming to Edmonton.
With the game tied at 2, Matty Vegas decided to get involved by beating Chris Wideman (??) into 2018:
Scoring goals. Stepping up for teammates. Pounding people into oblivion. Matty Vegas quickly becoming a fan favourite.
The period kept on cooking for the Oil. It was Mike Condon’s turn to let in a Gustavsson quality goal:
40 seconds later it was 3-3.
4 minutes later it was 4-3 for Ottawa. Thanks, Jonas:
I’m pretty sure that puck went through his chest… Christ.
4-3 Ottawa after 40.
The third period was literally all Oilers. The shots were 17-3, but they had no luck.
The boys gave up 3(!!!) shots on goal, because they knew Jonas couldn’t stop anything.
Kyle Turris added an empty netter with just over a minute left.
Final score: 5-3 for the Sens.
That loss is on Peter Chiarelli more than it is Gustavsson. Chia has refused to address the backup goalie situation all year. The fact that Gustavsson is in the NHL still is not his problem, its the Oilers problem. Thank god last night was the final straw.
I honestly love the Big Rig. Legit gave him a standing ovation in my basement last night. What a player he is. Perfect fit on a line with Connor.
Speaking of Connor… McPoint(s)!! He’s now back up to a 4 point lead on Sid for the scoring race.
Leon Draisaitl…. good player:
The Oilers kick off a 6 game home stand on Tuesday against San Jose. BIG game. They need to make some serious hay on this home stand. Playoff implications babay!
Hottest Tweet of the Night
@EdmontonOilers really do a good job of playing down to other teams levels !

Outshoot the Sens 38-18. Terrible effort indeed. Didn’t have anything to do with the fact that we would have won with a shooter tutor in the pipes.
If the Game Was a Song
Because I hurt when I think of Jonas Gustavsson starting games for the Oilers.
MOP & GGG
The Big Rig is CLEANING UP these awards lately. He was just named the second star of the week in the NHL, and he was a force on that road trip. He could have had his second hat trick in 3 games last night. Hell yea, Rig.
