Preseason Game Day Blog 2: Oilers @ Jets

I am determined to #MakeThePreseasonGreatAgain, and that means doing teaser game day blogs for every before season game that we play. A sort of prologue of game day blogs until the big papas get launched, beginning October 4th. This means that if we have a preseason tilt against the Jets, in Winnipeg, on a goddamn Wednesday then I’m putting my blog face on and getting to work.

Me seeing Matty Ice in Winnipeg’s lineup:

It looks so, so wrong. I know he didn’t spend his whole career here but dammit it felt like it. He should have retired as an Oiler. He should have been guaranteed a position in either the front office or on the bench, not unlike his old position. Instead, we let go of the greatest potential director of player motivation/assistant to the assistant GM that we never had. And now he’s in Winnipeg. Hell. The Sunshine City. Makes me sick. Of all the teams.

Patrik Laine and Kris Russell scored the same amount of goals for the Oilers last year.

Well it’s officially guaranteed win night as we have not one, but TWO good St. Albert kids in the lineup. Friggin’ Todd’s all about the T8N tonight. Matty Benning’s playing his first game of the preseason tonight to take on the Jets opening night lineup, joined by Ryan Stanton, who’ll be making his Edmonton Oilers debut. The two will be paired with Kris Russell and Eric Gryba, respectively. Former Rangers prospect Ryan Mantha and the guy who scored on Mike Smith from Airdrie will join them on thr blue line.

LB gets the start as the Iceman gets his routine rest against Winnipeg. Ellis will replace him at some point.

No word on the rest of the roster as of yet but word is it’s going to be very Bakersfieldish. Our B squad beat Calgary’s A team. Our C squad is going up against the real life Jets. Challenge accepted.

What to Watch

Streaming: you don’t have a choice

The video streaming on Monday was the only thing more behind that the 2017-18 Vancouver Canucks. The game will be streamed again tonight so that’s exciting.

Jussi Jokinen

First sort of game as an Oiler. Sneaky funny dude:

Note: It’s actually going to be Kailer playing alongside RNH and Jokinen tonight, idiot Twitter account.

No Jesse 🙁

Was really hoping Jesse would get the call tonight. In one meeting against Laine last season, Jesse fired 4 shots on net, his second most in a single game in his very young NHL career. Kid brings it against his best friend, and having him on the squad to light up Steve Mason like he’s the new Ondrej Pavelec would have been a good way to get the kid’s confidence rolling into the regular season. Shit.

Hello Moto

Kailer’s dressed in one career NHL “game” and all he did was make Mark Giordano look like Blake Bortles and undress Dougie Hamilton like a cheap hooker, on the same play.

Little buddy Kailer faced what was essentially an NHL defense on Monday. He’ll be looking at the same thing tonight. Love that. Get him ready.

There’ll be a bunch after this one. You can almost taste October.

Both St. Albert players get points. Let’s go.

3-2 Oilers.
