Holy Schnikes!: According to Dreger, Chiarelli Almost Dealt Hall for Cody Fucking Ceci

There are still those in Edmonton who favour Peter Chiarelli, which I feel is completely goddamn asinine, but whatever. Then there are those who break down the numbers and go, you know, he’s sold some pretty substantial assets for 10 cents on the dollar, and that those trades are not just limited to his time in Edmonton, but that he left Boston in complete shambles as well. Then the old mythical trades come to being. The “could have beens” which were never actually completed but are fun to talk about (or in this case, simultaneously horrifying and relieving to talk about).

I find it fascinating and that this mysterious and nearly detrimental trade has come to life this year and not last, considering how easy it apparently was for Dreger to acquire the information before jumping on 1260. You notice that last year, both Edmonton and Ottawa were good, and that there was no reason to rub it in as it wouldn’t have generated much of a conversation. But then you look at how terminally terrible these two teams have been this year and Dreger, the shit disturber, wanted to toss a grenade and see what sort of reaction he could create. It’s brilliant, really. If any Twitter knows how to implode at an moment’s notice it’s Oilers Twitter. It’s possible that Darren Dreger is simply looking out for the best interest of the Connor McDavid by standing on a mountain top and screaming that Peter Chiarelli nearly dealt Taylor Hall in a deal that would have landed the wildly abysmal Cody Ceci as some attempt at getting Peter fired before he inevitably fucks things up worse. If so, he’s the hero Edmonton needs.

There’s no question that we dodged a bullet by not trading Taylor Hall for Cody Ceci. The fact that this bullet even needed to be dodged is truly and honestly disturbing. We’re talking about two of the three most incompetent general disappointments in the league, maybe the world, both playing equal parts in creating maybe the worst deal on Earth and failing to complete the worst deal on Earth. I seriously don’t know who comes out looking worse in this case. Edmonton (Peter) for attempting to trade an elite 80 point winger for a monumental bust of a defenseman who is on the verge of being a permanent healthy scratch in another dog shit organization, or Ottawa (Pierre and Eugene, the power duo in this colossal debacle) for taking too long to CONSIDER (!!!) a package that involved Cody Ceci. Even if it wasn’t one for one (it probably was, let’s face it) if the centrepiece of a trade is Cody fucking Ceci and you’re acquiring Taylor Hall you don’t call ownership, you immediately make that trade and then proceed to go over to ownership’s house and pop a bottle of Dom and celebrate like frat dudes on New Years, then charter a jet over to Chiarelli’s house and break down his door and take a dump on his rug. The fact that this reckless endangerment by Chiarelli and this utter incompetence by the Sens organization has come to light and both parties still have their jobs today is diabolical. It’s insane. Somebody get Peter a babysitter not named Kevin Lowe and/or Scott Howson and/or Craig MacTavish in his office before he potentially does something this stupid ever again. Or, you know, just can his ass midseason and pick a name out of a hat for the temporarily vacant GM position.
